Leveling Up in Multiplayer
I dunno if you intend on doing it like in the C&C4 beta, using those levels yo gain new units and such, because that would totally suck. It's hard if you're a new player and have like 2 or 3 units at your disposal, and you're up against a Level Über guy with MARVs or something like that. It's annoying, and probably what brakes the beta for me (Well, a little). I know it keeps you intrested in leveling up, but maybe something else? Like when (IF you use those damned levels. Though they would get people playing it more) you level up, your units gain these perks. These perks give a little more damage or so, or new spcialities, and you could choose up to 3 or something for one unit. Then at level monster über you could get something maybe a little more rewarding, like a new unit or something. But something that wouldn't just unbalance it so that when you have this, you would always win.
Oh, oh. And maybe new skins? Well, that would be cool, but totally useless and requires more work.
Well, I need more peoples opinions and the dev team's attention to this.
Any response would be appriciated.

Well, since you took the time and effort to find this forum when you really shouldn't have until a few months from now, I suppose we can take some action regarding the issue. Tis one of the things we will be working on much later in the modding process, however we are looking into that.
Re: Leveling Up in Multiplayer
Thanks for the reply. My concern is really of something you can think about in the latter part of the process.
Something like this should either be updated on the game or have done at the very end. Or well, in the beta.
I'm TOTALLY ruining your secret meeting house, well, tent. Muhawhawhawhaw.

trust me, this is nothing at the moment, if you knew where we planned all this, we would have to ban you from the internets.
Re: Leveling Up in Multiplayer
Just found the forum through ModDB. I'm very interested in the CnC 4 Redux, I played the open public beta and it basically sickened me. I've worked hard on the CnC series, trying to do everything possible and complete every objective no matter how difficult. I even forced myself to trash the campaign on Tib Wars on Hard.
I was wondering if in the Redux if you'll be doing the same sickening idea of removing the base building side of the game like the beta or if you'll be keeping the bases in it. It isn't so bad for the offense class but for the defence class (and other turtle players like myself) it completely ruins the game.
I wont deny however that CnC 4 has some amazing ideas in it, like the flame turrets or Mega Obelisk. But removing bases is just ridiculous.

We also believed that it was a horrible move, we are going for a hybrid between the two, when I heard that defense class could build structures I jumped for joy, when i played the beta and found that all they could do is make defenses I gave up on EA right then and there.

i gave up on EA from the start

I have another question, are you going to be keeping in the epic units? Like the MARV and Redeemer? If you are, I have had a thought that one of the factions could use the old Mammoth Mk II, like Steel Talons or perhaps have it looted by mutants. Then the Black Hand, who like the Steel Talons, use the older tech could have the Cyborg Commando, or perhaps give that one to the Marked Of Kane. Just a little idea.

Re: Leveling Up in Multiplayer
since you're doing this on CnC3, is it even possible to have a leveling system? I would imagine that it's not in the code.

There are people complaining that C&C4's leveling system is more like ripping off from Modern Warfare 2, so I suggest that we don't use it all. All of these other game ripping off noises I hear is only making us sick, so I suggest that we still stick to C&C's original roots, be as themselves.

It shouldn't be. TW doesn't have any interface structure between the actual game and any meta elements other than the crate and money options as well as the Kane Edition upgrade, all of which are hardcoded into the game executable.SEA-106 wrote:since you're doing this on CnC3, is it even possible to have a leveling system? Maybe you guys can exploit the campaign progression system and use it as a proxy for the level up system? But one thing I don't understand is why one needs to level up when you already have access to all the units from the beginning. I think its better if progression is just removed for the meantime and focus on porting all graphics and FMV into the campaigns.

Re: Leveling Up in Multiplayer
Classic C&C games no need to use the leveling system, what they did is actually unlocking units through specific tech buildings and tiers. In the earlier missions, mappers usually disables stronger units from producing, later missions will have them enabled, pretty much of it and it should be simple in terms of coding. Leveling system might look kind of complicated, especially to a game like C&C3.

The Theaters of War don't interface with the actual matches in any way other then simply starting the appropriate map.iPcc wrote:Maybe you guys can exploit the campaign progression system and use it as a proxy for the level up system?

Then I guess removing the player progression system completely is the only solution. I mean, aren't we going to remove the unlock unit system because its just stupid? Maybe player level progression could be retained similar to how ladder system works.

C&C originally don't need to have the player level progression, C&C is mostly famous in the past is for the Theater of War system. Do refer to my storyline to know how it functions, EA's C&C3's ToW is NOT taken in the right path, they just don't understand the concept like dumb little kids.
